Great Expectations

Before we travel to Crete, we have decided to note down our predictions of what the village of Chora-Sfakion has to offer.

Below is a list of our expectations:

  • The climate will be significantly different from what we are used to experiencing in England. We have heard that Crete has a temperate climate and therefore we suspect the average temperature to be around 30ºC. As a consequence of this climate, we expect to see flora such as cypress trees which are able to adapt and survive the temperate conditions.
  • We expect the village to be moderately remote, but we feel the population will increase during our visit due to tourists being attracted to little rainfall and hot weather during the summer months.
  • We predict a varying relief across Sfakia with a steep topography near the White Mountains and a low relief nearer the coast.
  • We imagine the terrain will be rough thus making walking difficult in certain locations.

We are aware that sometimes perceptions do not always match up to reality. Therefore, we are intrigued to see how aligned our assumptions will be to what Crete is actually like.
