Welcome to our online blog which will keep you updated on our Human and Physical Geography fieldwork investigations in Chora Sfakion, Crete.

Chora Sfakion
Our study group consists of Qasim Akhtar, Michael Holloway, Sophie Neville, Cheryl Saverus and Laura Stark who are all undergraduate Geography students at the University of Reading.
We will be travelling to Crete on Tuesday 16th June and returning Tuesday 23rd June 2009.
The aims of our investigation are to:
- Evaluate the current and future impacts of human activity, mainly driven by tourism, on the area between and including Chora Sfakion and the Samaria Gorge (Human Geography focus). We will do this by looking at the management of tourism in different areas of Crete and by investigating any future plans of development in terms of tourism.
- Evaluate the impact of natural activity on the environment and landscape between Chora Sfakion and Loutro. In particular we will measure the extent and consequence of the Ilingas Gorge flood which occurred on 5th December 2000 (Physical Geography focus). We will do this by looking at the peak flow discharge of the flood and investigating the importance of slope angle.
- Use a range of equipment in order to collect, analyse and present data
We’re very enthusiastic about our fieldwork in Crete and hope that you enjoy following our blog.
